It was a very emotional moment for everyone in San Diego at the 2011 Gay Pride Parade as military service members were allowed to march and display their pride and support for the LGBT community for the first time since the lifting of the idiotic “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” clause. What a great way to start off the parade. I wasn’t expecting to feel so overcome with emotion!
5/10 in my pixel animal series.

Rad!
Recently, my girlfriend’s coworker gave her some furniture for her new ever-so-adorable nook of an apartment and I gave her a painting of my yellow bear monster fighting off some paper airplanes a la King Kong in a 2-canvas set. Lots of red and and black with a touch of gold and some lovely copper clouds to contrast the yellow and white.
Shortly thereafter, she commissioned me to do my version of the iconic Catholic Virgin Mary. I’m not a fan of organized religion in my personal life, however, I love the imagery that comes with many religions and ideologies. Being born and raised in southern San Diego, I especially love the colorful Mexican Catholic trinkets and art. So, she bought her desired canvases (two 1’ x 3 or 3 1/2’ vertical panels) because she had something specific in mind and I came up with this - an unintentionally somewhat Tim Burton-esque Dia de Los Muertos (my favorite holiday) inspired piece.
When she’s in the sun, you can see the amazingly gaudy gold, copper, and pearl white paint I used as well as the gold faded spray paint in the background. Everyone needs a little bling in their life.
